Posted on 16 September 2009 by admin

I have took about 2000 photo with my Nikon D60 gear during travel in Korea Seoul last month.

This is my first travel shooting experience since I got DSLR. I carried the camera all the time except sleeping.

Our travel experience in Seoul starts here…

Incheon Airport give feeling of Art. Soft classical music and art decoration make me press down the shutter. It was about 7 o’clock in the morning but look at the strong sunlight, it is like 10 in the morning.

Seaside Wooden Boat

Posted on 06 August 2009 by admin

My first outdoor photography artwork. It is quite difficult for full time worker like me to take outdoor photo during daytime. Sky is always dark when I go home.

Last Sunday I manage to go out in the evening for some shooting at seaside. This is where the fishermen park their wooden boat.

The weather covered by haze on that day. No blue sky and clear view. I increased Exposure to make it brighter. But at the end still choose this one without additional Exposure (0 EV). Why? See next photo to get the answer.

Darker image could produce better feeling with “ink sketch” effects. Is it great if print out the ink sketch version and sell in art gallery? :)

I use Paint.Net to apply the effect. No extra work, the effect just Great!

Road Night Photography Shooting

Posted on 05 August 2009 by admin

This is my very first outdoor shooting at night. The bridge near my house is just nice for me to practice my first ever night photography or some call “paint with light”.

You see the photo paint by vehicles light. Left lane with red light and right lane on white or yellow light. If you enlarge the photo (click on photo), the lamps have 14 star cross. Remember this is without special effect filter, just normal kit lens. The effect is cool!

How To Shoot Night Photography?

  1. Tripod is a must for night photography. Digieye TR-38 perform well during my night shoot. Don’t let wind blow away your DSLR at such high position.
  2. Another to concern is security of the spot. The path way to the bridge has no people during night time, and the staircase covered by huge tree. To be more secure, I bring along my dog for better security just in case. :) Or you can ask family or friend to accompany along.
  3. Remote control can help to reduce vibration on DSLR camera when expose long seconds. Or you can set self timer to 2 seconds and let it shoot without pressing.
  4. Turn to “S” (Shutter) mode. Reduce the shutter speed to at least 15 seconds. Try an error for different shutter speed. Look out ISO and Exposure. Don’t need increase too high since the shutter expose for long seconds or it over expose.

Did I left out anything, please suggest in comment. I’ll take it seriously to improve my photography skills.

Lesson Summary

  • Must bring Tripod
  • Consider security. Ask friend go together.
  • Remote control (if possible)
  • Reduce Shutter Speed (15 secs or more)
